I just wanted to introduce myself: I'm 17 and from England. Hopefully taking my test soon with my theory already booked. I love all things pre 1975 especially Volvos (although i have a small thing for Facel Vegas). My first car (and when i can drive, my daily driver) is a 1970 Volvo amazon which i have been restoring over the last two years and is finally starting to come together nicely. I've read Oppo for a while and thought your all pretty damn good when it comes to giving advice.
I'd also just like to say thanks to 505Turbeaux and Party-vi for their help.
And here have a photo of my amazon for your troubles:

Welcome! No problem at all!
I am a veteran of an Amazon myself, a 122s coupe some years ago

Welcome! And that is not only a beautiful Amazon, it's a beautiful picture. You (and your parents) should be commended for taking this route: working on a car until you're ready for it. So much better than the spoiled kids who get a brand-new 3-series on their 16th birthday, or whatever. You will have earned the right to drive that car, and can reply with a hearty "fuck you!" if somebody says, "so, what, your parents buy you that?"

Welcome, nice Amazon. Is it mechanically stock?

Haha, cheers. And my parents have been reluctant at times, but theyve always been very supportive which is good. And no, when i bought it, it had holes big enough to fit my arm through and wouldn't even start. Admittedly i had to get someone to do the welding and painting and a few other things (although i made them tell me how its done so i can do it in the future), but ive rebuilt the carb, put a new exhaust on (now with 10 less holes in the down pipe!), put in various interior stuff, and done lots of other little jobs. Actually i'm hoping to dye the interior, which is currently made up of more colours than a harlequin VW golf, back to black, so if people are interested i may do a write up on that.
Also, i'd never get a brand new three series, i prefer the idea of an early 1990's bmw 300 series... Cheers for that oppo.

I'm sure lots of people - all the people? - around here would appreciate a write up with pics on your interior resto.

Cheers and no, i've done a few things but nothing too serious. The recliner, dash and tach from a GT model, a uprated exhaust (which was actually cheaper than the stock one, despite being better quality), unleaded conversion and i plan on doing an electronic ignition at some stage in the future but it may be a while.

I got a 13 year old Ford Tempo when I learned to drive. I assume that qualifies me as a spoiled rich kid. haha

Welcome to Oppo. Don't be afraid to ask these guys questions, they know a lot of stuff!
I on the other hand know almost nothing, but am learning!! The mechanical veterans really support the mechanical learners around here, it's quite great!
